Pakistan Earthquake
The media need crises. Crises are good media content.
One crisis much reported recently is the shortage of tents in earthquake
stricken Pakistan and the area of Kashmir. Insufficient tents exist to
shelter the millions bereft of houses. The irony is that most of the
world’s tents are produced in this region. In their time of need, they,
who make shelter for so many, cannot shelter themselves. Even if there
were enough tents they are not inhabitable in winter. Its too cold.
This problem was visited upon viewers and listeners incessantly by the
media; solutions were not explored.
T. works with Millennium in Pakistan. He invented a metal shelter
constructed from local materials. It is sturdier and warmer than a tent.
A tall man, T. can stand on top of his invented hut and stand up inside.
Thousands can be made. The problem of shelter in the earthquake stricken
region is being addressed. It is not part of the crisis, but part of the
solution … and nary a peep from the media about this little movement
toward the light, in the midst of an overwhelming darkness.
