Between Al-Zarqawi and John

Al-Zarqawi is dead. So are a lot of people in Iraq. Zarqawi killed for al-Qaeda and a reward in the after life. He is now reaping that reward. He killed as a profession. From the vantage point of the average Iraqi, Zarqawi’s life was of little benefit. For Zarqawi’s efforts to bring death to others, he had death visited upon him.

John (not his real name) has a young family in Iraq. He works with Millennium. Last week a bomber tried again to kill him and his family. Iraqi policemen, working for al-Qaeda, positioned cars loaded with explosives near his house. John’s security team prevented them from getting too close.

The bombs exploded. Debris littered his lawn. John’s response? He continues working to provide clean water to his thirsty city. His expertise permits him to design elaborate municipal water systems for a people parched of infrastructure.

Between the legacy of Al-Zarqawi and the efforts of John, the future of Iraq hangs in the balance.
